National Geographic and explorers. National Geographic editor Gilbert Hovey Grosvenor (centre, 1875-1966) with polar explorers John L. Reinartz (left, 1894-1964) and Donald Baxter MacMillan (right, 1874-1970). Grosvenor, the first full-time editor, served from 1899 to 1954.
